Dr. Jason C. Méndez is a Boricua storyteller and researcher from the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx whose work explores memory, place, identity, and home. His creative practice is shaped by the histories, cultures, and communities that inform how we understand ourselves and the places we call home.
He is the creator of Guaraguao, an evolving archival project guided by a central question: What does it mean to be Boricua? Through writing, film, photography, oral histories, and archival research, Méndez traces the people, places, and cultural practices that carry Puerto Rican memory across generations and geography.
He holds a Ph.D. in Education from UNC–Chapel Hill and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Randolph College..
